OPINION

Silver lining

It?s hard to be sanguine about the economic crisis that has been dogging debt-wracked Greece and the European Union for the past couple of years.

In fact it?s all but impossible, as the economic meltdown has triggered a dramatic rise in unemployment and thrown millions of people into a state of insecurity.

That said, there?s another way of looking at the economic misery — and one which cannot be ignored. Crises, even disasters, serve as a reminder to the arrogant players of the markets that they are not immune. That of course does not mean to say that such situations are desirable.

Such readjustments can be found in nature too. For example, most scientists agree that some wildfires are ?natural? and help to keep things in normal ecological order.

One can only hope that the economic crisis, which is affecting us all, will in a way play a positive role in the emergence of a better reality.
