Political forces must unite

Greece?s economic woes are becoming increasingly unbearable by the day. We are already seeing signs that our foreign partners are seriously thinking about writing Greece off, while social unrest is gaining momentum back at home.

At times like this, it is imperative that the entire political system unites and lives up to its responsibilities. One way to achieve this would be a meeting of all political leaders, including former prime ministers who have a good deal of experience and can certainly bring some valuable advice to the table regarding what needs to be done in the coming days.

The crisis Greece is experiencing is unprecedented; it is historic and it will define the country?s future. It is therefore absolutely necessary that an unprecedented effort is made to achieve political consensus and to hear the voices of experienced politicians who are no longer bound by the fear of losing an election.

It is certainly no time for politicians to act coyly and not to speak up to offer their opinions and advice.
