Oil search bid brings optimism

The interest shown by eight major international companies with regard to conducting exploration for oil and natural gas in Greek waters is impressive.

In fact it?s even more impressive when you consider that the firms are prepared to invest more than 40 billion dollars in carrying out their research.

What lies behind this development is the discreet and highly professional preparation work conducted by Greek government aides and other officials working in designated departments in a case which for years lay gathering dust in various ministerial drawers.

One can only hope that the findings turn out to be significant, as this kind of development could help the country regain its footing and overcome the crisis.

One way or another, the major international interest that has already been generated in this exploration and its potential results constitutes a positive sign which sends out a message of hope and optimism at a particularly crucial time for Greece.
