Make sacrifices count

Determination and the ability to speak honestly to the people are two qualities that Greece?s coalition government needs in abundance right now.

Conservative Prime Minister Antonis Samaras has not disappointed in that respect, although the truth is that the crucial phase of implementing extremely difficult and painful measures is only just beginning.

But there is no other path and this is something that the party leaders in Greece?s coalition government appear to realize.

The type of foot-dragging and half-measures that were common during the Papandreou administration can only damage Greece?s credibility in the eyes of its international creditors.

The nation has made a mammoth effort to promote Greece?s fiscal adaptation. Coupled with a comprehensive plan to bolster the real economy, political determination is the safest way to ensure that the sacrifices made by the people over the past couple of years will not go to waste and that Greece will be able to benefit from any eurozone decisions aimed at stemming the lingering debt crisis.
