The only realistic option
There was one positive development that came out of Wednesday?s meeting between the leaders of the country?s three-party coalition government. PASOK?s Evangelos Venizelos and Democratic Left?s Fotis Kouvelis agreed on the policy outlined by Prime Minister and New Democracy leader Antonis Samaras regarding 11.5 billion euros? worth of measures demanded by the country?s creditors. As a result, the sounds of cracking glass within the tripartite government have died down, at least for the time being.
Looking at the situation objectively is the most realistic thing to do considering the particularly tough situation Greece finds itself in. Nevertheless, judging from comments made by PASOK?s leader following the meeting, in which he distanced himself from the premier?s decisions, it is becoming increasingly obvious that the current administration?s three-party cohabitation will not be without complications in the future.
Even so, it is vital for the government to maintain some kind of coherence and at the same time take the necessary steps within a framework of basic social justice.
