OPINION

Today and tomorrow

Greece faces yet another tough challenge on Wednesday. No matter how harsh, and partially unjust, some of the measures headed for ratification by Parliament may be, there is no alternative solution. The rejection of the measures and the fall of the Samaras government will inevitably lead to the country?s demise, chaos and the drachma.

At the same time Greece?s partners and creditors must also show decisiveness and courage in their decisions. No government carrying such a heavy burden can survive for long without any immediate, tangible signs of the real economy?s strengthening.

The prime minister also needs to form a government which is able to rise to the occasion. Growth and reforms are not just a matter of legislation, they are implemented through hard work and practical measures, while exerting continuous pressure on the public machine.

If the measures are ratified and our partners fail to respond generously to the new sacrifices while the government lets its guard down, the next wave of reaction will hit quickly and violently.
