Charlatans in the House

The attitude displayed and statements made by certain members of the Greek Parliament are truly beyond belief sometimes. On a daily basis, news reports cite extreme or ridiculous statements made by deputies – and these are not restricted to any particular party either – whose sole aim is to attract the spotlight if only for a few minutes.

There is an explanation for the phenomenon, and this is that a number of MPs never pass up a chance to spout their half-baked opinions on television, where infantile behavior is often rewarded for the sake of higher ratings.

However, this ranting and raving does a good deal of damage to the already tarnished credibility of the political system, especially as it is not just the deputies of one or two parties that indulge in such nonsense.

Of course, instead of wondering why we have such charlatans governing us, perhaps we should question why we ever voted for them in the first place.
