Where there’s a will…

Reports regarding the success of the ongoing battle to stem illegal immigration via the northern Greek border with Turkey is very good. Official data and articles on the issue suggest that efforts, which are focused mainly on the Evros region, are beginning to pay off and that the inflow of undocumented migrants has been drastically reduced over the past few months.

The success of the campaign is due to the fact that the European Union’s border agency Frontex has been working closely with Greek authorities, which have, in turn, finally started taking the issue seriously and taking real steps to deal with a very big problem.

What we can gather from the declining number of illegal migrants coming into Greece is that we are capable to solving our problems when they are dealt with by people with determination, professionalism and political will.
