OH, TSITSANIS!: A dance given at the Faliron Hippodrome on June 25 under the patronage of Sir Charles and Lady Peak in aid of the reforestation of Attica and of the Greek Girl Guides Society was extremely successful. (…) Hundreds of people flocked to the dance, the men dressed in formal white dinner jackets and the ladies in flowery dresses. (…) The officials’ table was in the sporting pavilion where the king and his party together with the diplomatic corps enjoyed a wonderful view of the entire proceedings. Later everyone went down and sat in the garden in front of the champagne bar where the singer Christoforos sang and played the guitar. Shortly afterward, the charming Rena Vlachopoulou also sang and at about 3 a.m., the Tsitsanis group arrived. When they began to play, everyone broke into Greek dances. (…) It was a truly wonderful evening and the gardens and grounds were filled with Athenian elegance and beautiful, happy young people. REDUNDANCIES: According to an announcement by the textile workers’ union of Piraeus, the Retsina firm yesterday dismissed 70 skilled workers from its factories. GEORGIOS-ALEXANDROS MANGAKIS: The University of Munich has announced that the distinguished lawyer Georgios-Alexandros Mangakis has been awarded a doctorate with distinction.
