No more selfishness

The results of Sunday’s first round of municipal and regional elections are proof that the pro-European parties, which represent Greece’s middle class, are able to secure the support of the Greek people when they, in turn, back candidates who are serious, able and who enjoy the approval of a wide cross-section of our society.

It is clear from last night’s results that local voters are no longer willing to cast their ballots along the traditional party lines. The message they have sent is that they want a widespread renewal of the country’s political personnel.

However, there are some people within New Democracy and PASOK who are fighting against such a transformation. They refuse to accept that their parties should open up to anyone that is not already part of the established supporter base. This narrow-mindedness only does damage to these parties.

ND and PASOK are also undermined by the failure of some of their members to see how crucial the situation is for the country and who are only interested in achieving their personal goals.
