Populism eating up education
The fact that the issue of education is not topping the list of priorities for the current coalition government, but instead, has been left in the hands of incapable politicians is utterly inexplicable.
The issue of students transferring from one university to another at will and without limit is placing the entire Greek higher education system under serious threat.
At the same time, the creation of a new architectural school in Ioannena, northwestern Greece, is nothing short of an irrational, irresponsible decision reached in the middle of an extended period of crisis.
Those who are genuinely concerned with the issue of Greek education were already deeply worried before they realized, with a growing sense of despair, that the current administration and political system are completely oblivious to everything that is going on the sector.
A country cannot envision growth without a committed and serious educational system. This fiesta of populism and political favors must come to an end.
