EARTHQUAKE-COMMUNISM: The prime minister, Field Marshal Alexander Papagos, has visited the three quake-stricken islands of Zakynthos, Cephalonia and Ithaca. The crowds that greeted him on his tour of all the stricken areas are the best indication of the trust that the beleaguered local population has put in him in the expectation that he will restore order. The statement by Bishop Ierotheos of Cephalonia, made when welcoming Papagos to Sami, was typical: «We are sure that just as you have saved the country from communism, you will now resolve the problem facing the earthquake victims.» NO MERCY: During a speech he made in Argostoli, Field Marshal Papagos referred to actions by anarchist elements who had arrived on the island of Cephalonia to create confusion and upheaval among the population and to spread anti-social sentiments. He said that the authorities had been ordered to arrest these people immediately and to expel them from the islands. HIGH SOCIETY ON MYCONOS: The beautiful tourist hotel on the island of Myconos has once again gathered a crowd of the select, including the kings of fashion Christian Dior and Jean Desses, the shipowner I. Carras, who came to the island on his yacht, and the actress Melina Mercouri.
