Government policy

The issue of irregular immigration is taking on serious dimensions on an international level, while in Greece it is bordering on crisis levels.

The government’s duty is to handle the issue without frivolity or fixations, within a framework dictated by legality and humanitarianism, but also that of reality – the kind of reality developed by the country’s position, its abilities, the dangers posed by the uncontrolled inflow of desperate people in search of a better life, the tolerance and endurance of Greek society as well as the political implications if the the situation gets out of control.

Bearing the above in mind, initiatives by cabinet members who try to turn their personal obsessions into government policy are not allowed.

Most of all, however, what cannot be tolerated is a lack of coordination and effectiveness when it comes to dealing with this particular issue, a matter which is bound to keep plaguing the country in the foreseeable future.
