OPINION

Vandalism isn’t philosophical

Occupations of public buildings by self-styled anarchists and other troublemakers and the defacement and destruction of historical monuments is starting to reach uncontrollable proportions.

The leftist-led government appears to be of the opinion that a stance of tolerance from the police will defuse the situation and prevent worse from happening.

This is a method that has been proven to work only on rare occasions. In fact, it usually has the exact opposite effect by giving carte blanche to destructive forces.

It is impossible to sit down and talk rationally with people who embrace violence, who draw no lines when it comes to the targets of their disdain and disrespect, and who view democracy and the state as their enemies.

The people responsible for the country’s public safety have a responsibility to take the matter more seriously instead of viewing it from a philosophical prism.
