Geopolitical threats

Greece needs to extricate itself from this crisis fast and get back on its feet, not least because the geopolitical climate is becoming increasingly stormy.

The Balkan region is re-entering a period of instability and Turkey is being rocked by an inner crisis as it tries to battle different fronts.

Islamic extremism and the waves of uncontrolled, illegal migration are very real and very big threats.

This is happening at a time when the Greek state cannot fulfill its basic obligations.

The government needs to exercise caution and avoid making empty promises and threats. Greece can take advantage of these geopolitical dangers in order to reach a better deal with its partners and creditors.

First of all, however, it needs to put its own house back in order and regain its credibility and financial power before anyone can take it seriously as a major geopolitical force.
