Duty calls

Following the decision of leftist leader Alexis Tsipras to resign on Thursday, opening the way to another premature general election, this country needs an experienced caretaker prime minister supported by a set of responsible ministers to oversee all sensitive sectors.

The above is mandated by ongoing developments, all of which are extremely crucial and leave no room for further foot-dragging and indecision. They include implementing the measures included in the third international bailout deal agreed with the country’s lenders, the recapitalization of Greece’s banks, which have been hit hard by recent developments, and dealing with the record number of migrant and refugee arrivals.

Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos and party leaders across the political spectrum must rise to the occasion and do what is best for the country in the coming days.
