The leadership of New Democracy needs to show that it is serious about implementing much-needed reforms in its pre-election campaign.
The people who vote for the conservative party are clearly pro-Europe and believe in the need for deep changes in Greek society and the state.
It will take determination to get New Democracy’s politicians and officials who belong to the past, who remind people of a bygone era and put them off supporting the party to bow out of the electoral race and television debates.
The present leadership of the conservatives may only be temporary but it carries an enormous responsibility which so far it has managed quite well.
The question now is not just how to win back party supporters but also how the party can do better in representing the vast majority of Greeks who want to see Greece remain in the core of Europe.
