OPINION

A mature decision

It may not be popular, but it is an act of responsibility. New Democracy, Greece’s main opposition party, has backed what it considered reasonable demands put forward by the country’s farmers but it stopped short of supporting road blockades by protesters.

Turning a deaf ear to the sirens of populism is not an easy task. They attract votes and create a sense of euphoria. Too bad you only realize its true price when it’s time to pay the bill.
