The wrong way to make friends

The demonization of international officials with whom Greece’s leftist-led coalition government is conducting ongoing negotiations is the wrong way to go about things.

One can be certain that the use of such tactics will not help the SYRIZA-Indepedent Greeks administration to win over any new allies on the international front.

At the same time, this kind of behavior is unleashing the most extreme powers of populism on the local front.

Meanwhile, Greece’s defamation by certain international media outlets works exactly in the same way.

Eventually, when the time comes for an honest compromise to be reached, the margin left for handling the situation on either side will be limited to a suffocating degree.

This kind of situation absolutely must come to an end.

That is because – besides everything else – it is the kind of situation which nurtures a vicious cycle of hatred and suspicion between Greece and its partners and creditors.
