Europe’s responsibility

The nightmarish scenario of tens of thousands of refugees and migrants finding themselves stranded on Greek soil is now becoming a reality.

The SYRIZA-Independent Greeks coalition government carries a great part of the responsibility in this case for failing to properly negotiate with the country’s partners and adequately prepare itself.

Meanwhile, last Friday, European Union member-states pledged to keep the borders open.

Prior to Europe’s commitment to open borders, the so-called Visegrad Four held their own summit, a meeting which the European Commission subsequently failed to condemn.

In light of this and irrespective of whatever omissions there may have been on Greece’s part, Europeans also have their own share of responsibility with regard to the ongoing crisis, as their current position keeps feeding the beast of anti-European sentiment in Greece.
