Explosive situation

The Greek government’s consistent failure to manage the refugee and migrant crisis has resulted in an explosive situation.

The most recent events at the Souda registration camp on the eastern Aegean island of Chios suggest that the situation may soon spin even further out of control and get much, much worse.

The usual excuse that Greece’s European partners have not been doing their part in sharing the burden is getting stale, especially as the Greek side has not even managed to create facilities that ensure decent living conditions for the refugees and migrants on the islands, even though it has received millions of euros in funding and subsidies to do so.

If something doesn’t change soon, we are certain to see extremely violent scenes unfolding in a short while – to the great satisfaction of extreme xenophobic elements.
