SOPHOCLES VENIZELOS: The joint leader of the Liberal Party, Mr Sophocles Venizelos, presented his party’s views yesterday evening on Athens radio regarding the electoral law. Mr Venizelos claims that the (ruling) Greek Rally party (led by Field Marshal Alexandros Papagos) was leading the country into totalitarianism and political anomaly. GEORGIOS KARTALIS: The Democratic Party of the Working People has made the following statement: «Even before the government tabled the electoral bill that abolishes democracy, Mr Kartalis accused the Greek Rally party of being undemocratic and unpatriotic. (…) The people have been sorely tried by the policies of Rally and expect the opposition to take firm action.» It is clear that Mr Kartalis wants a united struggle against the Greek Rally, but did not respond to the challenge raised by the leader of the outlawed Communist party of Greece (KKE) Nikos Zachariadis for Mr Kartalis to head a popular front against the Greek Rally. GIFT FROM ADENAUER: Chancellor Konrad Adenauer of the Federal Republic of Germany, currently visiting Greece, has presented 300 million drachmas for the people of Kalavryta.
