DISMISSAL OF ELECTED OFFICIALS: Larissa, 29 – Yesterday’s session of the municipal council to elect a new mayor of Larissa was canceled following the announcement of a ministerial decree dismissing 11 municipal councilors and appointing 11 replacements. Those who were dismissed sent a telegram of protest to the government. Those remaining on the council, and who belong to the same political group as those dismissed, declared their solidarity with their colleagues. QUESTION: Parliamentary deputies Messrs I. Riziotis and C. Korakas have tabled a question in Parliament asking Interior Minister Pafsanias Lykourezos why he illegally removed 11 municipal councilors from their posts in the municipality of Larissa and replaced them with non-elected officials. KARTALIS: Meanwhile, Mr Georgios Kartalis has also protested to Mr Lykourezos over the same issue. Lykourezos replied that the decision to dismiss the 11 councilors was reached on the basis of irrevocable evidence that required action to be taken in the interests of public
