Mediocrity over excellence

Yet again, the Teachers Federation of Greece stands firm against any attempts to even think about evaluating its members, let alone allow it to actually happen. And they are not the only ones who are fervently fighting to prevent this from happening.

The Greek Federation of Secondary Education State School Teachers is also clearly against evaluations. Even many university academics share this mentality.

These are people who have been appointed, assigned and selected to evaluate our children. They evaluate the adequacy and the quality of how our youngsters learn, but at the same time, they don’t want to have the adequacy and the quality of their teaching evaluated. No critique of the way they do their jobs is allowed, and this is a system of operating that looks set to continue.

It is clear that they’re satisfied with performing at a mediocre level. This would not be the case if they were striving for excellence. Their staunch opposition to having their work evaluated shows that they value mediocrity over excellence.
