MARKEZINIS RESIGNS: The resignation of Coordination Minister Mr Spyros Markezinis was announced early yesterday morning in a broadcast on Athens radio and in special issues of newspapers. The news came as a shock to everyone in the capital and the provinces. The question on everyone’s lips was why Mr Markezinis had resigned, as no one was convinced by the «health reasons» cited in his resignation. (…) Of course, there had been reports for some days regarding differences within the government but no one imagined, not even Cabinet members themselves, that they could lead to the resignation of the coordination minister. (…) Relations between the prime minister, Field Marshal Alexandros Papagos, and Mr Markezinis had been most harmonious until a few months ago, when the field marshal began to have doubts about the correctness of Mr Markezinis’s views. (…) Last Monday (March 29), there was conflict between the two during a session of the Coordination Council.
