PAUL’S 50th BIRTHDAY: According to the program to celebrate the 50th birthday of King Paul, an official doxology will be held tomorrow in Athens Cathedral. Between 11.25 a.m. and 12.20 p.m., the king and queen, accompanied by the crown prince and the princesses, will receive the best wishes of the courtiers, leaders of foreign diplomatic missions, government ministers, the speaker of parliament, members of the Holy Synod and other officials, in the main palace reception hall. The police have announced that people who live within 100 meters of Herod Atticus Street, Vassilisis Sofias Avenue, George I Street, Syntagma Square, Othonos and Filellinon streets, Ermou and Evangelistrias streets, and around the cathedral are not allowed to go up onto their roof terraces tomorrow. ARCHBISHOP MAKARIOS: Nicosia – Archbishop Makarios of Cyprus has ordered services throughout the island to celebrate the 50th birthday of the king of Greece. The leader of the Cypriot nation also ordered the Greek flag to be flown. The full normalization of Tehran’s relations with the West, particularly with the USA, came to the fore as a priority during the visit of British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw to Iran in early October. This momentum will severely diminish Ankara’s room for maneuvering in the Caucasus and Central Asia… Bilateral military cooperation between Ankara and Tel Aviv can work as a factor for putting pressure on Damascus only so long as the current dispute continues…
