COSTAS KITSIKIS: Darmstadt, 23 – The Greek architect Costas Kitsikis was today declared an honorary member of the Union of German Architects and made an official guest of the city of Darmstadt. ANTONIS SAMARAKIS: (From a book review by C. Paraschos of «Hope Wanted…»): Some of Mr Antonis Samarakis’s short stories are too short and some are so spare as to be meager. Some, such as «Flesh,» «The Wall,» «The Sun Was Too Hot,» or «One Night,» end clumsily. The reader wants a different, more convincing ending, more in line with the rest of the story. One feels the writer’s thought emerges from real experience, but it is kept in very familiar surroundings, where it remains pure thought and not transformed into narration or action. In «Hope Wanted,» there is nothing particularly personal, but a means of expression that wants nothing more than to relate events and express feelings, and there is also a narrative charm. Our interest is awakened and we read with pleasure, for Samarakis has a narrative skill, whether innate or acquired, perhaps also because in his voice we hear a true sympathy for the human condition.
