RETURN OF HOSTAGES: Thessaloniki, 27 – The third group of hostages to be returned from countries behind the Iron Curtain arrived in Thessaloniki at 10 p.m. yesterday, where thousands of people gave them a warm welcome. The repatriated hostages will stay overnight at the Papafeio Orphanage and tomorrow will be sent back to their homes. The Czechoslovak Red Cross handed the 371 hostages over to representatives of the Greek Red Cross at the border post of Hochenau. SPENDER AND MYRIVILIS: The National Association of Greek Writers is holding its first event of the winter at 7 p.m. on October 1 at the Home of Arts and Letters. The speakers will be Messrs Nicolas Nabokov, an American composer of Russian origin, and Stephen Spender, a well-known poet and director of the magazine «Encounter,» which is published under the aegis of the Conference for Intellectual Freedom. Both speakers will address the issue of intellectual freedom in the modern world (…). The president of the association, Mr Stratis Myrivilis, will make a brief introduction.
