BAD LUCK: It appears that many people tried their luck at the card table on New Year’s Eve. Over the past couple of days, a number of dejected folks have been seen on the buses and in the streets trying to explain to their friends why they lost. LOSSES: A platinum and diamond brooch in the shape of a flower was lost at the Argentina nightclub on New Year’s Eve. Any information leading to its recovery will receive a reward of 5 million drachmas. Contact Mrs M (…) Z(….). ILIOPOULOS: The premiere of the comedy «I Loved Him Very Much» at the Kotopouli Theater last night was a great success. All the actors received tumultuous applause, particularly Mr Iliopoulos, who carried the show. ‘FAUSTA’: The Kotopouli Theater is also to present an old favorite of Greek theatergoers, Dimitrios Vernardakis’s «Fausta,» translated almost in its entirety by Mr D. Myrat, since it would be impossible for today’s audiences to understand the outdated language in which it was written. «Fausta» was fist performed in 1893, starring Aikaterini Veroni. The current version will feature Melina Mercouri. The play was last performed in October 1934 on the island of Mytilene, in celebration of Vernardakis’s centenary. On the Koufonissia islets in the Cycladic chain in the Aegean, the few residents also had to keep using drachmas. «Most shops have still not been supplied with euros. We are waiting for the ban on sailings to be lifted to start getting used to the euro,» said one resident, Katerina Psarrou.
