MEDALS: The king (Paul) has made the following New Year awards: (…) the Royal Order of the Phoenix: to Dimitris Rondiris, general director of the Royal Theater (…) and Alexis Minotis (…), both Commanders of the Order; and to Katina Paxinou-Minoti, the Royal Order of Benefaction. AMERICAN DONATIONS: Archbishop Spyridon of Athens and All Greece will take delivery at a special ceremony on Dock No. 4 in the port of Piraeus of the first cargo of food parcels donated by the American people to the people of Greece who are without means. The archbishop will begin the aid’s distribution. PAO-OLYMPIAKOS 1-0: Panathinaikos beat Olympiakos by 1-0 during the first match of the holiday cup, held on the afternoon of January 2 on Panathinaikos’s home turf before a crowd of 25,000 people. Due to the rain the ground was muddy. The only goal was scored by Sofianos. Linoxylakis, with his dynamism and preparedness and Papantoniou with his methodical approach were the stars of the match. AEK-DYNAMO 1-1: Zagreb’s Dynamo played its last match in Greece on New Year’s Day against AEK. The match ended in a 1-1 draw.
