EOKA: According to the French news agency’s correspondent in Nicosia, an organization which signs its slogans and proclamations with the initials EOKA is behind a series of bomb attacks. FLORAKIS: Larissa, April 2 – The trial of outlaw leader Harilaos Florakis, also known as Captain Yiotis, a cadre of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), began here today. He is charged with violating law 509. (…) The court, after hearing the verdict of the jury (which included, for the first time, three women) sentenced Florakis to 13 years’ imprisonment and deprived him of his civil rights for five years. This afternoon Florakis’s second trial began. CANNON’S INTERVIEW: Kathimerini political correspondent Ilias Dimitrakopoulos had a long and very interesting, exclusive interview with US Ambassador in Athens Mr Cavendish Cannon, who emphasized that the great progress in recent years was due to stable and visionary Greek governments. He stressed the dangers of the re-emergence of the popular fronts. He said that liberal elements (meaning certain officials of the center) were again being drawn into an alliance which could only end in its own destruction.
