MAKARIOS: Bantung, 23 – Archbishop Makarios of Cyprus, currently here to attend a conference of Afro-Asian states, said today that British proposals to grant Cyprus a constitution were clearly a pretense since the majority of the members on the proposed legislative council would certainly be appointed. CYPRIOT STRUGGLE: Nicosia, 23 – Another 24 Cypriots, including many students, appeared in a Paphos court today on charges of taking part in demonstrations in front of the town’s courthouse last March 16, when the trial began of 13 people accused of trying to instigate a «civil» war. Questioning of the 24 Cypriots was postponed until June 23 and 24 and they were set free on bail of 50 pounds each. Yesterday another 40 people were brought before the court on the same charges. EARTHQUAKE VIGIL: Patras, 23 – The Christian Association for Equality before the Law has submitted a memorandum to the Municipality of Patras asking, among other things, that the people be asked to fast and to attend a service to pray for the cessation of earthquakes.
