FREDERIKA’S TOUR: Thessaloniki, 17 – Queen Frederika today continued her tour of children’s homes in villages in the prefecture of Pella. Local authorities, residents of these special homes, and all the local people came together to extend a warm welcome to the queen, who asked to be briefed by all those working with the local children. The queen was particularly interested in those youngsters who were ill. She paid close attention to all of them and gave instructions to the authorities that all of the sick children should be receiving hospital treatment. (…) The queen will stay overnight in the royal train at Edessa and is to continue her tour tomorrow. AMERICAN BASE: Following a report yesterday by The Associated Press that the construction of a large US Air Force base on the island of Crete has been postponed indefinitely, the following announcement has been made: «The US Embassy announces that plans for the construction of a base in Iraklio, on the basis of agreements regarding military facilities, is proceeding according to plan.»
