SOPHOCLES VENIZELOS: Hania, 13 -Yesterday the leader of the Liberal Democratic Union, Mr Sophocles Venizelos, arrived here from Iraklion accompanied by parliamentary deputies Mitsotakis, Tzatzanis and Eleftherios Venizelos. Speaking to friends in Iraklion, Mr Venizelos said George Papandreou had betrayed the Liberals’ 40-year struggle and had not hesitated to characterize those who were opposed to the Greek Rally Party in the municipal elections as the equivalent of the wartime National Liberation Front (EAM). GEORGE PAPANDREOU: «All those who dodged the challenge of the parliamentary by-elections in which I was first to agree to take part in – and whose successful outcome would naturally decide the fate of the Greek Rally government – have no right to invoke the municipal elections,» said George Papandreou, leader of the Liberals, in reference to Mr Venizelos’s comments. CONSTANTINE KARAMANLIS: Argostoli, 13 – The trial of Harilaos Florakis – aka Capetan Yiotis, 41, of Rahoula, Karditsa – has begun at the Lefkas criminal court.
