TRIUMPH FOR MINOTIS AND PAXINOU: Paris – The second Paris festival of dramatic art closed with a performance by the National Theater of Athens that was met with great acclaim by the critics. The day after the performance of «Oedipus Rex,» all Parisian newspapers rained plaudits on the Greek actors. In L’Aurore, the reviewer wrote: «Following the excellent, brilliant performance of ‘Oedipus (Rex),’ one can truly say that the Greeks have performed a miracle: Ancient tragedy lived again before our very eyes. All the actors performed superbly, particularly Katina Paxinou, whose Jocasta was superior, outstanding. Alexis Minotis gave an unforgettable performance as Oedipus that was tragic and human.» In Compa, Eric Lacon wrote that Alexis Minotos… showed us the true meaning… of real tragedy. Katina Paxinou’s performance was one that is rarely seen in modern theater.» NEW POWER STATION: According to an official government source, the electric power station at Ptolemaida is to be built by the Public Power Corporation (PPC).
