MARKEZINIS HEADS OPPOSITION: The parliamentary deputy for Drama, Mr Antonios Fostiridis (aka Tsaous Anton), who belonged to the Greek Rally Party’s parliamentary team, yesterday submitted a statement to the parliamentary speaker announcing that he is to join the Progressives Party. This party, led by Mr Spyros Markezinis, previously had 25 parliamentary deputies, as did Mr Sophocles Venizelos’s Liberal Democratic Union, but now will have 26 deputies, making it the main opposition party. ARREST OF ROULA KOUKOULOU: The Athens general security force marked a fresh success yesterday in arresting the wife of Greek Communist Party leader Nikos Zachariadis, Roula Koukoulou, who is also a leading cadre in the party hierarchy. The announcement did not say where the arrest was made. Koukoulou was in possession of a forged identity card and had entered the country from behind the Iron Curtain for the purpose of broadening the party’s espionage network and other clandestine groups. HOLIDAY AHEAD OF PREMIERSHIP: Minister for Public Works and Transport Mr Constantine Karamanlis has arrived in Rhodes for a week’s holiday.
