HELPING TO FORGET: Very important steps are to be taken to help establish a climate of normalcy and to protect the state’s interests, according to an announcement made following deliberations between Prime Minister Constantine Karamanlis and the justice minister, Mr K. Adamopoulos. The measures are the following: 1) Eleven air force officers and NCOs imprisoned for espionage and violation of Law 509 on «protecting the social status quo» are to be released from prison under amnesty. 2) All files on inmates of prisons for convicted communists, numbering some 5,000 people, will be re-examined as speedily as possible in order to release all those except for people considered dangerous. 3) Strong penalties are to be instituted for tax evaders. Various industrialists are to be prosecuted for violating tax laws. 4) The monitoring of actions by civil servants and employees of public corporations is to be assigned to members of the Supreme Council of Civil Servants, who will have the right to investigate everything, including the way civil servants live.
