KARAMANLIS AND THE AMERICANS: The Prime Minister, Mr Constantine Karamanlis, made the following announcement yesterday evening: «As soon as the government was formed it set before the US government the issue of amending the provisions in the Greek law on extraterritoriality, which creates a status of inequality compared to the situation that exists in other NATO member states. The US Embassy in Athens informed me today that the United States government has accepted the Greek government’s proposal regarding the amendment of these provisions so as to harmonize them with those existing in other NATO member states.» DEMONSTRATIONS FOR CYPRUS: Schoolchildren in Hania, Corinth, Mesolongi, Komotini, Ptolemaida, Naoussa, Gavalo and Aitolia held demonstrations yesterday to call for the union of Cyprus with Greece. VAN FLEET: US General James A. Van Fleet has reportedly criticized US policy on the Cyprus issue. «Our traditional policy has been self-determination for all peoples. On the question of Cyprus, however, we seem to be abandoning our fundamental convictions,» he said.
