EVANGELOS AVEROFF: Greek government sources who have never been in doubt of Britain’s perfidy and lack of faith have described the latest action by Sir Anthony Eden’s government as another instance of their base deception of the Cypriot people. Last night Greek Foreign Minister Evangelos Averoff issued the following statement: «Yesterday’s announcement unfortunately is another indication that the British government is unable to comprehend the real meaning of the Cyprus issue and to understand the implacable force that is driving the Cypriot people.» (Editor’s note: Averosf was referring to an announcement by the British governor of Cyprus, Field Marshal Sir John Harding, calling on members of the National Cypriot Fighters’ Organization [EOKA] to give themselves up, following EOKA’s unilateral declaration of a ceasefire.) SANATORIUM ARREST: A guard working at the Sotiria sanatorium in Athens caught a man in the act of buying medicines from a patient. Police called to the scene also seized six packets of drugs that had been prescribed for patients suffering from tuberculosis. The man was in the habit of buying these drugs off the patients and selling them for a profit.
