SUEZ WAR I: London – Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser last night rejected an ultimatum from Britain and France, which are to land today in Suez. These two countries have asked both Israel and Egypt to withdraw from either side of the canal. The USA, which has expressed its opposition to the French-British move, is sending its Sixth Fleet into Egyptian waters at top speed. The USA has asked the UN Security Council to order the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Egyptian territory. France and Britain vetoed the move and the American proposal was rejected. There was a strong demarche from the Soviet Union to Tel Aviv regarding its attack on Egypt. France and Britain vetoed a Russian proposal to the Security Council. A general mobilization has been called in Egypt and Saudi Arabia. ELECTRONIC CHURCH BELLS: Last night the new electronic church bells installed in Athens Cathedral were tested for the first time. The bells can peal the main hymns used in the cathedral as they operate using a system of keys. They produce a very loud sound that can be heard from far away. This is the first time electronic church bells have been used in Greece.
