It is then, according to some people, that a major gastronomic event took place. The duke’s chef presented him one day with a new, oily sauce made from pure olive oil and egg yolks which he called «sauce mahonnaise» and which later became mayonnaise. On the occasion of this 200th anniversary, the Gastronomy Press Union will celebrate this Saturday with a competition among some of the world’s greatest chefs for the best mayonnaise recipe.
