Minister or union leader?

An unabashed Public Order Minister Vyron Polydoras yesterday made an unprecedented disclosure to the press before addressing Parliament: The list of demands presented recently to the Ministry of Finance had been drafted by the unionists along with the public order minister. The conservative cadre, it seems, has a hybrid quality; half minister and half unionist. Polydoras’s attitude may prompt even more union leaders to think that they can just occupy New Democracy’s offices and, perhaps, pay similar «unexpected visits» on Parliament or the government headquarters at the Maximos Mansion. Given these recent developments, we must remind ourselves of the obvious: The police and other public offices are there in order to serve the citizens and not their own members. For their part, the members of the conservative administration must make up their minds: one can either be a minister or a unionist, not both.
