ADMIRAL AGAINST FIELD MARSHAL: The shameless libeling of Field Marshal Papagos has led to the withdrawal of the Greek Rally party from Parliament. It is considered certain that the person responsible, the national defense minister (Admiral Sakellariou), will face sanctions. Acting Prime Minister Sophocles Venizelos went to the palace last night (…). The cause of the scandal was an order issued by Sakellariou on the occasion of Independence Day, March 25, according to which «the four-month-long libel campaign in the press against the armed forces, instigated by Field Marshal Papagos himself in a speech in Parliament, has influenced public opinion.» (…) REPRIEVE COUNCIL: The Reprieve Council has issued its ruling on the appeal by eight communist spies for a stay of execution by the Permanent Military Court. According to reports, the council recommends commuting the death sentences of four or five convicts to life imprisonment, rejecting appeals by the others.
