HUNGARY: London, 8 – According to reports from Budapest, the regime of premier Janos Kadar continues to persecute anyone it suspects of being part of what it calls the «counter-revolution» of last October. (…) Hungarian police have arrested writers and actors. A UN committee has completed a report outlining the part the Soviet Union played in quashing the revolution. ELIAS EHRENBURG: The Russian writer Elias Ehrenburg arrived in Athens last night from Prague, accompanied by the writer Boris Polevoy and and other academics, as the guests of the Greek Committee for International Detente and Peace. Upon their arrival, Ehrenburg told reporters he was happy to be in Greece again, having already paid two previous visits in 1926 and 1934. «When a foreigner comes to Greece, he wonders why he hasn’t come before, and not why he has come,» said Ehrenburg, adding that he admired Greek writer Nikos Kazantzakis and was pleased to see that his novel «Christ Recrucified» had been made into a film (titled «He Who Must Die»).MILLIEX: Last night the French Institute’s Deputy Director Roger Milliex was awarded France’s Legion of Honor to great applause.
