A war of words on the ashes

If Greece really was mired in a national crisis, as the PASOK opposition has claimed in asking for a meeting of political leaders, then that is one more reason to avoid petty politicking and instead join hands with the government in tackling the skyrocketing problems. If the government really believes that the devastating catastrophes of recent days mandate the consensus of all political parties and the soothing of political passions, then it should have offered more than half-baked condemnations of the Socialists’ allegations. Once again, Greece’s politicians have failed to live up to the challenges facing the country. They continue to play games on the country’s ashes: Seven casualties, thousands of hectares and numerous blackouts later, the best that our parties have come up with is a war of words. People, however, are fed up with easy promises and empty allegations. After all, it is they who are suffering – and they expect at least a little bit of communication between parties.
