THE STATE IS TREMBLING, YOUR MAJESTY: Even the most insensitive of citizens has realized this fact. From an editorial in Kathimerini: «Much has occurred lately that has made law-abiding citizens justifiably concerned. These are: the conspiracy against the army – for what with one thing and another (Ed. note: investigation into the military organization IDEA) the army will soon be incapacitated – the undermining of domestic security because with the clemency measures (Ed. note: for communists) and the changes being made (Ed. Note: to the leadership of the police force) dynamite is being placed under the foundations of the State causing economic decline and the crime of the simple proportional electoral system which is being blatantly prepared. These are not insignificant issues, as the most insensitive of our citizens must realize. (…) These (are) extremely dangerous (developments) as all honest people are aware, as are the most rational in the government. The king cannot but be aware of it also. (…) The king might not be responsible, but the government continues to present the monarch to the public as the commander in chief, an office which eventually must assume responsibility for what is happening with the military. (…) The State is trembling, Your Majesty!» – Archbishop of America Demetrios, who arrived in Athens on Saturday, meets Parliament Speaker Apostolos Kaklamanis and Foreign Minister George Papandreou.
