DASSIN-MERCOURI:The famous American film noir director Jules Dassin arrived in Athens by air yesterday and was welcomed at the airport by Melina Mercouri. Dassin is to remain in Greece until Easter Monday when he and Mercouri will fly to Rome for the filming of «The Law,» in which the Greek actress is to star. GREECE-ARGENTINA: The loveliest square in Buenos Aires has been named after Greece. It is this country that the Argentineans wanted to honor in such a courageous and warm way. NEW BOOKS: «When Comes the Stranger,» by Yiannis Ritsos, Kedros Publications, Athens, 1958. «Aesthetics-Criticism: Volume II» by Costas Varnalis, Kedros Publications, Athens, 1958. RICH AND POOR: The Education Ministry has announced that the Council of State has ratified a joint ministerial decision to exempt certain categories of schoolchildren from paying education fees. Half of all schoolchildren will be exempt from fees and the council’s decision affects about 100,000 pupils.
