CRISIS IN FRANCE: Paris, 12 – The French cabinet convened an emergency meeting today in order to determine the government’s stance in the crisis with Tunisia. France is facing a fresh development in the crisis, either through the involvement of the UN Security Council or having to accept the «good services» of the two mediators from the US and Britain. This could bring about the downfall of the French government due to the intransigence of the conservatives in the Gaillard government, who comprise about 100 deputies in the National Assembly. No announcement was issued, but the ministers had been advised by US President Dwight D. Eisenhower in a letter urging the French government to make every effort to resolve its conflict with Tunisia, and warning that otherwise they would be unable to count on US support in the event that the matter is brought before the UN Security Council. MARIA CALLAS: The famous Greek soprano Maria Callas has finally made an effort to regain the favor of the Italian public after her dramatic walkout of a performance of «Norma» in January at the Rome Opera House. She is to appear in Donizetti’s «Anne Boleyn» at La Scala, in Milan.
