OPINION

No more talk, just action

The Vatopedi affair must be settled on strictly legal grounds and not just with statements meant to impress, and the solution must entail the return to the state of all the assets that have been lost. In the case of embattled Olympic Airlines, the government needs to come up with a viable solution, while on the pension fund front the reform package must be put into practice. These, among others, are some of the most pressing problems facing Greece right now and a solution must be found even though we are in the midst of a global financial crisis. Everyone, all the way from the prime minister to the simple deputy and the leaders of the opposition, should be judged by their contribution to helping Greece move forward, because games of one-upmanship between and within the country’s political parties as well as public relations coups do nothing to impress the average Greek citizen, who expects nothing less than solutions to the country’s biggest problems.
