Violence gets you nowhere
Every and any use of violence within any given society – for whatever reason – is a threat to the very principles of democracy. Moreover, the repeated attacks and boorish statements by extremist and terrorist groups against media organizations that we are now having to face is something more – they are nothing less than armed stupidity. If the goal of these organizations is to silence certain opposing or uncomfortable points of view, they should know that that is a goal which is entirely unfeasible. Even bad ideas cannot be fought with the use of Molotov cocktails, bombs or bullets. They can only be defeated by better ideas. Any attacks on representatives of the press, television, radio or other media have always been universally condemned. Having said that, it is up to the authorities to do what is self-evident and get to the root of the problem. Terrorism and violence have to be stamped out, no matter what the objects of their rage may be.
